News: Demand for separate hill areas administration

Manipur News

DIMAPUR, SEP 3 (EMN): A memorandum has been submitted to the Prime Minister by ‘Separate Hill Areas Administration Committee’ seeking a separate hill areas administration out of the existing state of Manipur.
The representation, signed by the committee’s convenor P Ashuli Arche and secretary RL Nelson, on behalf of the Hill Tribal People of Manipur, pointed out that the five hill districts of Manipur – Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul - are contiguous chunks of hill Areas in Manipur. It said these Hill Areas have been inhabited by Hill Tribal People since time immemorial who were never been subject to any King of the Meitei Kingdom.
Moreover, it pointed out that the ‘Anthropology of Manipur clearly defines that Hill Tribal People and Meiteis in the State of Manipur are distinctively and identically different from each other especially in culture and traditional practices’.

News: BJP highlights State's crisis in RS

Manipur News

Imphal, August 31 2010: Wielding the willow for Manipur, BJP MP and National spokesperson of the Saffron party, Tarun Vijay today raised a motion during zero hour in the Rajya Sabha drawing the attention of the House to the re-imposition of yet another economic blockade in Manipur by advocates of Nagalim. Raising the motion, Tarun Vijay said that the Government must take immediate action to restore peace and normalcy as the people have started losing faith in the Indian State.
Pointing a finger at the United Naga Council, which he dubbed as being supported by the NSCN (IM), which is anti-National, the BJP leader said that the UNC has re-imposed a 25 day economic blockade on both the National Highways, which link Manipur with the rest of the country. Before this, Manipur was paralysed for 68 days, when the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur, imposed an economic blockade, he recalled.
