National News

NEW DELHI, AUG 31 (IANS):Home Minister P. Chidambaram Tuesday admitted that Delhi government has violated guidelines in the diversion of plan funds for scheduled castes and tribes to finance projects for Commonwealth Games.

Earlier in the month, Rajya Sabha had witnessed disruptions by members of the Bahujan Samaj Party over the issue, which came to light through a Right to Information application.

News: Manmohan Singh expresses concern over Naga-Metei 'divide' in North-East

National News

New Delhi, Aug 26 (ANI): Prime Minster Dr. Manmohan Singh on Thursday said that the situation in the North East is better today than it was in the recent past, but some areas of concern still remain, like the Naga-Metei divide in Manipur.

Addressing the second-day session of the 45th conference of Director Generals Of Police and other senior security officials here, Dr. Singh said: "In Manipur, for example, the Naga-Metei divide had accentuated. The unfortunate growth of identity-based assertiveness in the North East, particularly in Manipur and the North Cachar Hills, needs well thought-out and sensitive handling."

NEW DELHI [PTI] Aug 25, 2010,: Keeping up his campaign against organisation of Commonwealth Games, senior Congress MP Mani Shankar Aiyar on Wednesday questioned the rationale of Delhi hosting the event and said it would have been a "very good answer" to insurgents if it would have been held in Manipur.

Speaking to a group of Delhi University students at Press Club, Aiyar wondered why such mega events come back to Delhi again and again. Even if it is organised here, he asked, why localities in the outskirts like Bawana are ignored.
