Dimapur, February 8 (MExN): The Nagaland government cabinet has relaxed a number of riders concerning Manipur students appearing for their HSLC examinations (2010) under Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) in Nagaland. The Nagaland cabinet met on February 3 and discussed the matter, Chief Secretary Lalthara, IAS, informed in a note today. A number of stipulations decided upon by the cabinet, and to be implemented by the NBSE was notified today.

CHANDIGARH, FEB 8 (IANS): Former Haryana police chief S.P.S. Rathore, convicted of molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra in 1990, was stabbed thrice in the face by a youth wielding a pen-knife outside the district court complex here Monday. An injured Rathore, however, returned in a couple of hours for the post-lunch session of the first day of the three-day continuous in-camera hearing that started Monday to appeal against his conviction.

Agartala, February 8 (Agencies): The state-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corp (NEEPCO) will add 870 MW of power to the electricity-starved northeastern region by 2012, a senior official said here Monday. “We are executing three hydro-electric and one gas-based thermal power projects in Arunachal Pradesh (600 MW and 110 MW), Mizoram (60 MW) and Tripura (100 MW) and these projects would be completed in the next four years,” said NEEPCO chairman and managing director IP Barooah.

KOHIMA, FEB 8: In yet another despicable incident, a mother of six children was reportedly gang-raped by three local persons in the jungle between the By-Pass Check gate and Jotsoma village on Sunday.
According to police sources, the victim, wife of a herdsman (goala) in her mid-forties (name withheld), was forcefully dragged by the three persons, stated to be local, from her home located above the By-Pass Check Gate at around 2 pm on Sunday afternoon.

Imphal, February 08 2010: Sustained efforts by child welfare activists and State's Social Welfare Department to bring back the 19 children reportedly rescued from an unauthorised children home in Chennai finally bore fruit as the kids reached here safely this morning. Soon after their arrival from Guwahati to Imphal in a passenger bus, the children were taken away to a children home at Takyel, where newspersons were prevented from interacting with the kids with the Social Welfare Department officials citing travel fatigue of the children.

Tamenglong, February 08 2010: Along with busting a camp of NSCN-K and NNC located at New Chingkao of Tousem sub-division, Tamenglong district, Assam Rifles troops of Red Shield Division, 59 Mountain Brigade arrested one active cadre of NSCN-K yesterday. According to sources, the AR troops, on receiving information about movement of UG cadres in New Chingkao area, launched a search operation there from February 6 till today in the course of which one militant camp was destroyed. Even as other UG cadres managed to flee away, one NSCN-K cadre identified as Kabipou Rongmei (22) of Tousem village was apprehended.

News: Tehelka scribe deposes before Commission in Guwahati
Guwahati, February 08 2010: Teresa Rehman, the principal correspondent of the Tehelka news magazine for the Northeast, deposed today in Guwahati before the one-man P.J. Agarwal Inquiry Commission in connection with the July 23, 2009 alleged "fake encounter" case in Manipur. During deposition, she was asked by the Commission and the police counsels if she had verified the genuineness of the photographs published in her article in the August 8 issue of her magazine Tehelka, Teresa said she did not verify them by herself.
